Bolts, Rivets and Special Fasteners

Classification of Bolts

Classification of Bolts

Bolts are divided into three groups according to their tensile strength. These;

1. Low-strength bolts: These bolts are used in connections that do not require special features and do not carry loads. They are the cheapest fasteners on the market. There is no need to use washers with these bolts. Low strength bolts are supplied in the following standards.

DIN 7990

DIN 601

TS1021/9

ASTM A 307-61 Grade A

2. High strength bolts: They are used for the connection of load bearing elements. Bolts in these standards are used in applications where vibration, impact and bidirectional forces are present. These bolts are supplied in the following standards.

DIN 6914 - 8.8 Quality

ASTM A 325-65

TS 80-8G

3. Alloyed, quenched and tempered bolts: They are used in machinery and construction elements where very large alternative forces are applied. Main application areas; Connections that cannot be allowed to slide, such as machine bearings, coupling connections. Major standard numbers;
